Mary McGill is Hardiman doctoral scholar at the National University of Ireland, Galway (NUIG). Her research explores young women’s engagement with selfie culture from a feminist cultural studies perspective. Areas of particular interest to her are visual culture, femininities, and postfeminist digital cultures. Mary lectures in feminist and gender theory at the Centre for Global Women’s Studies in NUIG. She is also a board member and communications officer with Sibéal, Ireland and Northern Ireland’s only research network for postgrads and early career researchers in the fields of feminism and gender. Outside of academia, she is a regular media contributor and writer with a particular emphasis on women’s rights, popular culture, and feminist histories.
