Katie Poushpom is a freelance Dramaturg and Playwright. As a dramaturg, she has focused her techniques through a process of subversion and reconfiguration, in an effort to analyse the text or theatrical piece, which is reconstructed harmoniously for the artist and audience alike.
Katie gained her Honours degree MA Writing for Performance, Dramaturgy from Goldsmiths University in London. She has written and collaborated on work with the Gaiety School of Acting and Smock Alley theatre in Dublin. To this day, she continues to work with playwrights and various theatre companies as a dramaturg, creating and developing performances and texts. She has directed and written plays such as Cloud Nine (Caryl Churchill, Dublin), End of the Line, (Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Edinburgh), Notre Dame Au Marché, (an adaption of James Joyce’s Finnegan’s Wake, London), The Cave, (London).
Katie Poushpom, feeling very frustrated with the theatre industry, decided to venture into an alternative route of theatre making and began to research a vast array of theatre. After a few years, Katie created TheatreBound, an artistic entity dedicated to discovering and creating fresh methods of both producing and viewing theatre. TheatreBound is based within the digital world, on Youtube, videos are uploaded weekly. These videos discuss theatre through alternative information and alternative theatremaking.
Katie’s ethos is one of radical redesign of a now stagnant theatre scene; a reform of the theatre is not enough for Ms. Poushpom, what she requests is nothing less than a revolution.
Katie’s video on her favourite female playwrights will be published on 18 August 2016.
