Carol Ballantine


Carol is a PhD researcher at the School of Global Women’s Studies in NUI Galway. She is part of a research team documenting the social and economic impacts of Violence Against Women and Girls in three low income countries – Carol’s research focuses on the social impacts because she is a little afraid of equations. Her PhD research is focused on the role of stigma in mediating the impacts of gender based violence.
Prior to this project, she worked for ten years in international development, and lived in Honduras and Guatemala as well as travelling regularly to countries in East and Southern Africa. She is passionate about old school community development, participatory approaches, and popular activism. She lives in Dublin, with her husband and 5 year old twins.
